Restoran Kawan Kita @ Semenyih

Restoran Kawan Kita, located along the main road in Semenyih town is established inside the walls of a Chinese temple... Not bad for a setting... The restaurant has been the mainstay of the town for more than 2 decades due to its maintained food quality and service.

But nothing is perfect aite...haha. For your information, the restaurant has 3 chefs working on shifts. Therefore, their style of preparation and taste do differ. This I notice from the different taste on different days for identical dishes. From what I can taste..not all are at the same high standard...if you know what I mean.. ;)

One of my recent visits there was disappointing due to the fact that all the dishes ordered lacked something...Believe it or not...all the dishes lacked oyster sauce...Pai Kut Wong(Pork Ribs) which has a dark maroon color ended up looking bright red and tasted flat. So did the Sizzling Taufoo which also lacked flavor.

I'm writing this post right after my dinner there actually... and again I have something to say about it =) This time the fish and vegetables used were not fresh at all. Another disappointment I must say... I hope they weren't discriminating by keeping the fresh stock for the coming busy Sunday or New Year's eve... Expected more from a RM25 Steamed Asam Pedas Talapia which is ussually fresh and tasty.

Thats all for now..hope u guys find great places to eat this coming New Year's eve... Here's a tip...potluck.. ;-)

Christmas Visiting

Ahhh...I think this is the 1st time I've had 3 invitations to lunch on Christmas! lol..Some serious controlling needed so i don't overload my stomach :p

1st was Jay Reuben's place...n guess what? I had to wake him up from sleep...at 12pm !! Who sleeps on Christmas till 12pm? haha...its ok bro... :p As usual aunty made good cookies..among which my favorite..chocolate chip cookies :)

2nd was Sophia's place...Jackie served us a very warm welcome..Sophia's moist chocolate cake and chocolate chess were good desserts. Sophia's mum's bread pudding was a welcomed surprise as I watched it a day before on 'The F Word' and wondered how does bread pudding taste like..haha..and yea..it tasted good. Just don't ask what Chef Ramsey thinks about it :)

Finally it was Stephanie's place... Started with a 2003 Merlot and a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon ;) We also had to ourselves the secretly hidden chocolate cookies (in pic). It was chocolaty good! explaining its hidden status by S&R :p Passed the time away with Joshie, Steph & Rebecca until dinner was served..A couple rounds of Chivas and a few games rounded off a good and memorable night :)

That's until we found out Joshie missed the stop at Kepong and slept all the way to Kuang! Lol..no more whiskey for u! haha..

Thanks once again for a great day of Christmas Visiting : Jay, Soph, Steph, Becca, and Josh! Merry Christmas!

Milwaukee Steak Corner @ Balakong

Recently renovated and revamped, I was hoping Milwaukee's quality serving was still up there. Well, after watching a good Christmas musical in UNITEN, what better way than capping the evening with a good western meal.

Upon arrival I was greeted by a menu that was broken down. About 5 pages of it hung without any support and I had 2 same pages on chicken. Chic.. Chic.. A lot of stickers with higher priced items dotted the menu. I was joined by my partner for the night, Pearl. We shared a huge jug of guava juice which was just about right and not laden with sugar. I must say the revamped steakhouse still had its previous ambiance and charm.

I went for my favorite, the NZ Black Pepper Lamb Shoulder, while Pearl had the Crispy Chicken Chop.

The lamb shoulder was a complete disappointment. 3 slices of lamb meat with uneven and fatty sides overcooked to form a hard and chewy substance which required a lot of energy to cut up. Black pepper tends to cover up the taste of the meat with its strong aroma, but one should know when the meat is rubber-like.

Pearl's Chicken Chop came up short as well. The portion of meat was acceptable but laden wit flour and oil. The crust really left much to be desired.

The side dishes on both of our servings were boiled corn, mashed potato and salad with mayonnaise. We are big fans of mashed potato but what we got was a scoop of potato that was hard! I'm not lying, but it was hard and not even warm! I believe the mashed potatoes are pre-made and kept in the refrigerator to be heated later for use. But come on la!
Mashed potato = hot & steamy! not cold & hard! The corn looked like a poor man's version of the mixed vegetables usually the side dish of a western meal. Nothing great about the salad as well. Wonder what happened to the usual serving of fries..

Do be aware if you are sitting outside, cockroaches roam free along the sides. I did not alarm my partner by letting her know. You know girls.. ;-)

All this for a higher priced menu was totally unacceptable on my behalf.

All in all, Milwaukee Steak Corner is still alive only because its the only such mediocre steakhouse for the area of Semenyih, Kajang & Balakong.
