Hock Kee Bak Kut Teh & Seafood @ Jalan Reko

Located along Jalan Reko in Kajang, Hock Kee Bak Kut Teh & Seafood is somewhat your regular Chinese restaurant you'll find in every town and city in this country. But like its name suggest, this place does excel in its Bak Kut Teh and seafood dishes.

Among the other dishes of the day...

Baby Kailan w Garlic & Sesame Sauce

Nothing special, but it is fresh and light (meaning little use of MSG :p)

Home-made Fried Taufoo

Although I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise with taufoo, it was not too bad. But I reckon it would go wonderfully with chili sauce.

Dried Chili Squid in Yam Basket

Usually we order the chicken variant, but something different for a change. The yam tasted gorgeous.. Here, its not starchy but flavorful and crispy. But I recommend going with the chicken or prawn variant as they better absorb the flavors than squids.

Sizzling Japanese Taufoo

A mainstay dish among the Chinese. Bubbling hot, you just can't wait for it to cool down before taking a huge spoonful of it into your mouth.

Now for their house specialties...

Asam Pedas Talapia

This place serves the best Asam Pedas I have tasted so far. Rich, flavorful, balanced, and most importantly spicy hot gravy, finishing the dish without any remnants is never a problem. You could opt for the fried or steamed Talapia. Both goes well with the gravy. Prices range from RM18 to RM26 depending on the size of the fish and season.

Bak Kut Teh

I must say I am a
beginner when it comes to BKT, but the restaurant does attract a large number of customers just for its BKT. The soup is your typical BKT soup, not too strong, and full of pork goodness! The pot above is actually for 1 person (RM7) but has enough soup and meat for 2 stomachs.

Order a bowl of Yow Char Quai (RM1.50) and it goes beautifully with the hot BKT soup as its dipping.
So next time you are craving for some pork and seafood galore around the area, give Hock Kee a try.
