Restoran 61 @ Jalan Reko

They serve good Chinese food.. But the only problem i got with the place now is its pricing..

For example, our favorite.. Sweet Sour Pork Rice started off at RM5 2 years back.. Last year it was raised to RM5.50.. This year its RM6!! That for me is just too much.. Raising the price like that for a personal dish isn't warranted as the cost of raw items needed hasn't really sky rocketed.

Furthermore being in an area close to UKM, its way beyond the standard university student dinner allowance.. I guess the lack of customers there these days is a testament to their overpriced dishes.. Hope they learn something from it, sooner rather than later..

Bee Heong Hainan Chicken Rice @ Cheras

Taking a break from criticizing and dooming food places which deserve them, I do come across the occasional gem which deserves mention..

Located directly opposite from the Starbucks outlet at Cheras Leisure Mall, its a small roadside hawker style stall serving only Hainan chicken rice.. And boy it is the best chicken rice I've tasted so far!

Bee Heong Hainan Chicken Rice.. Here's the lowdown..

The rice is cooked with the usual chicken stock..but the difference is..its cooked in house-sized rice cookers.. I found it quite cute actually.. They had 3 of those..I guess big things come in small sizes.. ;)

The Hainan chicken was flavorful n had a nice and balanced touch of sesame oil to it. I ordered bean sprout as an extra side dish. It was so fresh, it looked more green than white.. and tasted good.. The dishes were neither salty nor overpowering in taste.. unlike how you get it at most chicken rice outlets...

The ingredient that makes this Hainan Chicken Rice outlet different from every other is its grind chili dipping and ginger dipping.. They were outrages!! Both were rich in taste and flavor.. It gave the chicken rice dish a shot of vodka n whiskey respectfully!! No kidding.. Pearl, who hates ginger, had to undergo a love-hate relationship with the dipping as she couldn't stop having more of it!

To compliment it all, a bowl of salted vegetable soup was served.. clear, tasty and ajinomoto-less..

Looking forward to bringing more of my friends over there soon.. = )

Millennium Chicken Rice @ Da Chong

Millennium Chicken Rice is among the number of stalls located at the Da Chong food court in Kajang town. Its usually crowded towards night time with its big screen projector TV.

Millennium Chicken Rice serves a whole chicken leg which is tender and juicy inside and covered with a crispy crust along with white rice, shredded cabbage, fried egg, and hot sambal. Please be wary as the sambal can be a tad raw at times and too much of it can cause you to go to the toilet the next day. The food is not too bad but the pricing does confuse me.

Lately, they increased the pricing from RM4.50 to Rm5.00. It was reasonable i guess, but it was unreasonable to charge those who wanted to have the chicken alone RM4.00. So are you telling me if I just wanted to have white rice, shredded cabbage, fried egg and sambal, it would be only RM1.00??
